Warsame Shirwa

Warsame Shirwa specializes in community relations, education and outreach.
Born in Mogadishu, Somalia, he came to the United States as a political refugee and has dedicated his life to education and outreach to other new immigrants.
In addition to serving as a community outreach specialist with the Saint Paul Police Department, Warsame has worked with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, nonprofit organizations and community organizations to help new immigrants connect with government services. Warsame helped develop the federal government’s “New Immigrant Orientation Guide,” hosted a popular public radio program for Somali Americans, and served on a variety of boards for community and faith-based organizations.
He is fluent in Somali, English, Kiswahili, Amharic and more. Warsame earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Somali National University and has a computer science and education degree from Mombasa Polytechnic University College.
