
Matt Clark

Matt Clark is an experienced public safety executive with a background in command level leadership and operations. He was the Police Chief and Director of Public Safety at the University of Minnesota from 2015 to 2025. During this time, he managed complex large-scale events, held command roles for metro-wide protests, and oversaw safety services for one of the nation's largest universities. As police chief, he effectively reduced crime, improved multi-disciplined collaboration, and increased community engagement.
Since 1991, Matt Clark has focused on providing superior police and safety services to communities in Minnesota. His career started in small towns in southern Minnesota. Clark spent 22 years with the Minneapolis Police Department and was promoted to Assistant Chief in 2012. While with this department, he held command positions in patrol, investigations, training, and special operations.
Matt Clark has a masters degree in public administration. He graduated from the FBI National Academy, Senior Management Institute for Police, Police Executive Leadership Institute, FBI LEEDA and FBI Executive Development Seminar.
